A lot of Voters cards, presumed to be hoarded with an intention of casting fraudulent votes had been recovered by police from a house in Theravi, Mulaitheevu. 288 voters card belonging to 136 families were so recovered said the police.
One person accused of hoarding the voters card and the post man of the said area were arrested on suspicion by the police. They were supporters of a National political Party, the area people said.
The task of delivering voters Card for the LG Election to be held on February 10th is being undertaken by the Postal Department now. This is also being done in Mulaitheevu District.
A section of the voters card sent to be delivered in Theravil area were ones that were captured from the said house. Following a tip off received by the Puthukudiyiruppu Police, a team of Police, officials of Election Department and Deputy Postal Master General of Northern Province raided the house and captured the voters cards. It was later learned that, the arrested man and the postman are supporters of the UNP.
