Waste oil in underground water, Mallakam courts orders to produce officers of the company responsible

The Mallakam Magistrate A. Judeson ordered yesterday that the officers of the establishment which is responsible for seepage of waste in underground water be produced in the courts.

The case filed by PHIs, police and affected persons was taken up for hearing yesterday before Magistrate, A. Judeson at the Mallakam Court and Magistrate issued 3 orders including the above. The other two are to supply drinking water to people living within 2 Km radius and as the seepage is supposed to be moving Northwards, any complaints by the people along the locus of the seepage, the Central Environment Authority in conjunction with National Water Supplies and Drainage Board, examine the situation and make the people aware about it.

In a context where two Power Generating Companies are operating in Chunnakam,  The Central Environment Authority should verify as to from which power station the seepage is occurring  and take action to produce the officers of that establishment through the DIG- Northern Range, on the next date.
