Due to the heavy rains prevailing in Vavuniya District the water level of Pavatkulam had gone up to 16.11 feet and the sluice gates of Eeraperiyakulam had been opened, said the District Secretary of Vavuniya I.M. Hanifa.
The water inflow had increased in the last few days and several tanks are spilling now, he said.
Current water levels of tanks under Central Irrigation Department are as follows:
Pavatkulam – 19.11’, Eeraperiyakulam – 15.7’, Maruthamadu kulam – 12.1’.
The District Disaster Management cent is in reradiness to handle any disaster that might occur, he said.
