We wish to live as equal citizens: Sampanthan in front of Maithri and Chandrika in Sampur

We reject violence out right. We like to reach a solution with peace. President Maithri should hold consultations on the problems of the Tamil People, negotiate and find permanent political solution to Tamil People. That is the wish of all Tamil People.

We wish to live as equal citizens with all rights, honour , self respect and security, said Era Sampanthan at event organized distribute land deeds to people at Sampur.

 He  also thanked President Maithripala Sirisena for his kind gesture of personally visiting Sampoor and handing over deeds bringing great relief to the displaced that have been suffering immensely for decades.

Earlier, President Sirisena had revoked an agreement by the Rajapaske regime under which 818 acres of land were taken away from the people of Sampoor after the war. These lands are now released by the new government to resettle the displaced.

Earlier, President Sirisena handed over deeds to 234 displaced families in Sampoor yesterday. Chairperson of the Recinciliation Task Force Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge accompanied the President.

Eastern Province Governor Austin Fernando, Eastern Province Chief Minister Nazeer Ahamed, Eastern Province Education Minister S.Thandauthapany, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Rauff Hakeem, Daya Gamage and others were also present.
