As the water levels in the wells in the coastal areas of Baticaloa and Amparai Districts, Tsunami fear gripped the people and children and aged people started to displace from the night of Friday towards the main roads.
From around 7 p.m. on Friday, the water levels in the wells of Kallaru, Koddaikkallaru and Kaluwanchchikudi in Baticaloa District and in several villages in Amparai District including Periyaneelavanai, Pandiruppu, Kalmunai and Maruthamunai got dried up suddenly and from around 10p.m. people were found to be gripped by Tsunami fear. They spent the night without sleep. Although, the Police asked them not believe rumours and said that people need not fear, children and aged moved towards main roads for protection.
However, on Saturday the water levels raised to a certain extent and no untoward incidents had occurred. It is notable that due to the inclement weather prevailing in Baticaloa and Amparai Districts, water is overflowing in some wells and water levels going down in some wells and heavy rains with strong winds had driven the people into fear.
