Why PCR tests were stopped for 2 days? Dean of Medical faculty clarifies

The conduction of PCR tests at the Medical Faculty Laboratory were halted to effect infrastructure development. After the development the tests had been resumed from Wednesday, said the Dean of the Medical faculty Dr. Raviraj. There is no truth in the rumours spread by parties with vested interests that there is infection in the Laboratories, he further said.

He said so in a media conference held at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on Wednesday.

Elaborating further, he said the tests had been continuously from April 2nd up to day before yesterday. As no other lab was in operation we could not stop work at the University Lab. However as the lab at the the Teaching Hospital began its operation the University Lab was temporarily closed for undertaking infra structure development and to facilitate taking temperature machines inside the lab.

When he was asked about the complaint of two lectures that proper safety methods had not been adopted in the lab and requesting to stop tests, he said any such complaints have to be channeled through him and to date he had not received any such complaint. If there is actually infection in the lab, by now we all would had been quarantined, he said.
