Wigneswaran explains the selection of Fish as symbol of Tamil People National Alliance
The Secretary General of Tamil People National Alliance, Justice Wigneswaran has elaborated on the selection of Fish as the symbol of Tamil People National Alliance.
In a Press Report issued by him he has stated that it is one of the many symbols offered by the Election Commission. There are many reasons for selecting it, he had said.
* Fish is the symbol of Pandyas who first marched against Ceylon. Their heirs are still living here. Particularly, their descendants are living in the southern end of Eastern Province.
* One of the Lord’s incarnations is fish.
* We call Baticaloa “ the land of Singing Fish”. While I was serving in Baticaloa as the District Judge, I was taken in Vallam (Boat) under the Kallady bridge and I placed my ears on the Vallam and heard the sweet voice of Singing Fish. Hence our mother land is a “ Land of Singing Fish”.
* The North and East have a long Coast. It is on this main reason on which the Government is trying occupy our coasts. Our coasts are largely connected to fish. Fish remind us of our long “Neithal” soil.
* Several of the people who have sacrificed their lives for our liberation struggle are descendants of our ancestors who depended on fish as their livelihood.
* This symbol was given to us on March 5th which lies in the Period of ‘Pisces’ Lagna.
* Fish will come to our help in redeeming the Economy of our people. Marine and inner water reservoirs should be developed in this view. Our forthcoming rule will be rule of fish.
* Fish sacrifice it self to provide food for people.
Finally, he has asked “ Are these reasons enough or may I give more?”
