Up to recent times the foreign policy of India regarding Sri Lanka had only paid its attention on providing Economical Facilities. At least now it should be paid on exerting strong political pressure on Colombo. It should pave the way to bring in Federal Government here, said yesterday, the Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran.
The farewell event for the Consular of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna, A Nadarajan and the accompanying dinner were held at a Jaffna Hotel yesterday. Addressing the gathering there the CM said as above.
Elaborating further, he said, “Even the 13th Amendment also was not prepared as per the advice of the Indian Government. Even the meager powers given in 1992 had been plucked off by the Centre.
I demand that a vigorous foreign policy be adhered by the Indian Government. It is a great privilege that, Tamils or Tamil Speaking officers being appointed as Consular right from the day of establishment of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna.” The Chief Minister also presented a Marathy style sword to the outgoing consular, A.Nadarajan, as a memorabilia.
