It has been planned to construct a large Irrigation Tank in extent of 6 Sq.Kms. At the Anthanaqththidal area,on the Chavakachcheri – Point Pedro Road, linking the Rain water catchment are of Vadfamaradchchi  in order to fulfill the water demand the Jaffna District at a cost of Rs.2,000 Million.

With an intention of blocking this project, the Wild Life Department got the then Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera to declare an area of 7.882 Hectares as Natural reserves including the areas starting from B-75, Bhava – poinpedro catchment area, AB 31 Kodikamam – Point Pedro area and B 71- Nagar Kovil – Aliyawalai Catchment area.

The Wild Life Department which says that they want to safeguard the Mangroves which are on the verge of extinction. is refusing the give approval to the Irrigation scheme which will alleviate the drinking water crisis of the Jaffna District.

Hence , the Tamil politicians should exert pressure for the irrigation scheme to undertaken without any hindrance.
