The Mulaitheevu court will announce its decision next month as to whether Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva who led the 58 Division to court in connection with the Habeas Corpus filed with regard to the fate of persons surrendered at the end of the war.
An argument was place before Mulaitheevu court yesterday that as the General is connected to the Habeas Corpus, he should be summoned to the court.
The Habeas Corpus for members of the LTTE, including Elilan, who surrendered at the end of the war, was taken up at the Mulaitheevu courts yesterday. Retd. Maj. Gen. Chanakka Gunawardene testified that he was not in charge at the time and Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva was in charge of 58 D at that time. Following his testimony, petitioners’ AAL, Ratnavel submitted that Shavendra Silve should be summoned to the court. The State AAL objected to this saying that General Shavendra could not be called to the Court.
The court adjourned the case to April 27th and announced that, a decision on this will be announced on that day
