International Women’s Day rallies with an objective of creating awareness on eliminating violence against women were held yesterday in all districts of the North under the aegis of Ministry of Women’s and Children’s Affairs yesterday.
Jaffna District Secretary N. Vethanayagan signalled off the Rally in front of the Jaffna Bus stand on Wednesday at 8.30 a.m. The rally proceeded along the Hospital road through A9 road and concluded in front of the Jaffna Secretariat.Jaffna additional District Secretary Sugunarathy Theiventhiram, Assi. Dist. Secretary(Land) , Muraleetharan, Officials of the Secretariat and woman organizations participated in the Rally
The Rally commenced at Vavuniya South Educational Zone and ended up at the Kachneri. Vavuniya D Ist Secretary flagged off the rally Vanni MP. Selvam Adaikalanathan, Northern Health Minister, P.Saaathiyalingam, Zonal Director of Education, Muthu Radhakrishnan, District Director of Education, M.P.Nadaraj, Vavuniya Diviisonal Officer, Departmental Heads and women’s organizations took part in the rally.
Awareness creating activities were undertaken from District Secretariat to Depot junction.
Several participated in the activities including the District Secretary, Suntharam Arumainayagam, Additional District Secretary Sathiyaseelan, and Officials of the District and Divisional Secretariats.
Rally at Mannar started at the District Secretariat at 9.30 wound through the Main Strrt and returned back to the Secretariat. Mannar District Secretary M.Y.S.Deshapriya, Mannar Divisional Secretrary K.S.Vasanthakumar, Additional District Secretary Stanley de Mel,Officers from District and Divisionaal Secretariats, and representatives of Women’s organizations participated.
The Rally went off from the Secretariat proceeded along Beach road to Tsunami Memorial,and reached Children park and reached the Secretariat through Post Office Road.
