World Food Program playing a big role in building up the health of the North: Ainkaranesan

The World Food Program is performing a humanitarian task in playing a big role in alleviating the hunger of the Northern Province which has been affected by war, said the NPC Minister of Agriculture, P.Ainkaranesan.

Through this project nutritional food being provided to 160, 000 students from grade 01 to grade 9 in 964 schools. This is not a small number. It is around 13% of the population of the Province.

This year’s inaugural event of the World Food Program’s project for feeding School children for the Northern Province was held at VavuniyaPoonthottam MV, day before yesterday, Monday.

Participating as the Chief Guest, he said further that, One of the five great epics in Tamil Manimehalai mention a word ” PasippiniMaruthuvan” ( Doctor for alleviating hunger). I shall, say that the WFP is the greatest doctor of the world. Alleviating hunger of children give them a physical and mental strength, which no other medicine could give them. In this way the WFP feed around 20 Million children all over the world.

By attracting the students to school, even with food, feeding them and thereby creating an environment for studying the WFP, renders a worthy service.

The Northern Minister of Education, T.Kurukularajah,Director of the Asia-Pacific Region, of the WFP, Davis Cartroot,Representative for Sri Lanka, Shelly Whiting  in this inaugural event presided by the Deputy Chief Secretary of NP, SaraswathyMehanathan.
