475th Annual Commemoration of Mannar Martyrs held

The 475^th Annual commemoration of Mannar Martyrs was held at the Thottavely Martyrs Garden yesterday.

These martyr were persecuted and killed by King Sangiliyan for following Catholic Religion propagated by foreign missionaries.

The Bishop of Mannar Diocese,Rt.Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando and the Vaican Representative for Sri Lanka Arch Bishop Dr. Peter Nian Vanret said a joint Holy Mass at the Martyr’s garden.

Action is being taken to canonize the martyrs who laid their lives in the year 1544 as per the tradition of the Catholic Church. A book was published in this regard.

Several people including Bishop emeritus of Trincomalee, Rt.Rev. Kinsley Swampillai , Vicar Generals of Dioceses, priests, and the public participated in this event.
