House approves civil society members to CC
House of Representatives today gave approval to the nomination of three representatives of the civil society to the Constitutional Council.
Dr.Ariyaratne, Dr.Rathika Coomaraswamy and Shibly Aziz are the three representatives whose nominations were approved by the House.
Dr. Ariyaratne is the founder and president of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement in Sri Lanka.
Shibly Aziz is a well-known and eminent President’s Counsel who has contributed extensively to the development of the legal system in the country from on or about 1968.
Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy was the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict until 13 July 2012.
Coomaraswamy, a lawyer by training, was also formerly the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.
