Hurricane Newton has felled trees and damaged power lines in western Mexico after making landfall near the popular resort of Cabo San Lucas on Tuesday. But it has caused only “minor damage in infrastructure,” President Enrique Pena Nieto tweeted.
There were no injuries despite the heavy rains and strong winds, he added. The hurricane had registered maximum sustained winds of 150km/h (90mph) as it approached the state of Baja California Sur.
“It would appear that we won’t have major damage except for what we have already reported,” National Civil Protection Co-ordinator Luis Felipe Puente told Milenio television.(BBC,2016)
