The Army personnel who were occupying the Omanthai Check Post have completely vacated from it, it is reported. The Omanthai Army check point was operation for several years now. It was a point which separated North and South during LTTE’s period and thereafter.
Although checking had ceased after the Good Governance came to power, Army personnel were in occupation there.
The Land on which the Camp was situated is a private Land. The owner of the particular land had bee insisting with the Government to release his land. A demonstration was also held recently demanding the release of this land.
In this the Army personnel have demolished all the sentries and gone away. The moved out with all their equipment on day before yesterday evening.
