“Puṅgudutīvu: A Disintegrating Island” – A Documentary Film Launch and Screening in London
A documentary entitled “Puṅgudutīvu: A Disintegrating Island” to be launched on Sunday (22nd May 2016) at Harrow Council Chamber, Civic Centre, Station Road, Harrow, HA1 2XY at 5.30pm.
This documentary entitled “Puṅgudutīvu: A Disintegrating Island” is based on an anthropological field research study undertaken in Puṅgudutīvu, located in Jaffna peninsula, northern Sri Lanka, by Thanges Paramsothy, a doctoral research student from the University of East London, United Kingdom.
This documentary takes a look at the land-related issues, which the people of Puṅgudutīvu currently face consequent to the internal and external displacements brought about in the wake of the armed conflict that lasted three decades. This also brings into focus some problematic issues routinely encountered by the inhabitants in relation to their residence, water problems, agriculture, safety and security, casteism, religion etc.
The event will start at 5.30 pm and end at 9.30 pm. This includes a photo exhibition on ‘Puṅgudutīvu’, critical review on the documentary, DVD launch and discussion. This event is admission free.
