10 year old breaths his last in the Waste oil tank abandoned by the Army in KKS

A student who was reported missing was recovered dead in a waste oil tank of a vehicle service station abandoned by the Army, the Police reported. This pathetic incident has occurred on Sunday in Nalinnakkapuram, recently released for resettlement.

Kajendrakumar Sajinthan (age 10), a Grade V student of the Kankesanthurai Nadeswara College, was the one recovered from the waste oil tank. He had left home for his grandmother’s home on day before yesterday and had not returned home until dark. His mother had gone in search of him to grandma’s home to be told that he never came there. Subsequently a search was undertaken by the parents and relatives, but could not find the boy and a complaint was made at KKS police.

On the following morning the relatives found his body floating in the water stagnated in the waste oil tank near his home. This vehicle servicing centre was in the use of the Army when they were stationed in Nallinakkapuram. The tank around 15 feet deep has been in a state of unused for more than 10 years. After the abandoning rain water, flood water and other debris had filled the tank.

Although the area was allowed for resettlement a few months back, this tank remained unfilled by relevant officials. He is presumed to have fallen accidentally into the pit.

The body was handed over to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for postmortem after inquiries by the magistrate. police are conducting further inquiries.
