11Tanks under Army occupation, Agricultural Organizations seek Good Governance To release them

There are 11 agricultural tanks under Army Occupation in Mullaitheevu district only. The Agricultural Organization had requested the Good Governance to get the tank released from the Army.

They said that, All including Agriculture, Fisheries and Education were destroyed in Mullaitheevu District, which was heavily affected by war. Fishermen are unable to do fishing. Farmers are unable to do Agriculture.

In fisheries Southern Fishermen are transgressing. Ancient lands of farmers are occupied in the name of Mahaweli Zone L. This occupation had extended up to the borders of our ancient lands. Resources in thousands of acre prime lands had been gobbled as Kent Farm and Dollar farm.

Even with all these when we try to do farming, our tanks are not available to us. 11 tanks under which large number of farmer undertook farming, are currently under the along wit h thousands of acres of farm lands. 500 acre land with 4 tanks in them  are under the Air Force. Murukandy tank, Arokiyapuram tanks, Odduchuddan, Sivanagar tank,Kurunthoor Tank and Thuvarankulam are under the Army.

Because of this the livelihood of farmers had become a big question mark. The Government should take action regarding this, they said.
