12th Commemoration of assassinated ‘Mamanithar’ Sivamaharasa observed
The 12th commemoration of Assassinated former MP and ‘Mamanitrhar’ S.Sivamaharasa was held yesterday, Monday, at the head office of the Thellipalai Cooperative Society at around 10.30 a.m.
In this event presided by the President of the Thellipalai Multi Purpose Cooperative Society, N.Umaharan, MP, M.K.Sivajilingam participated as the Chief guest while, the Chairman of the Vali North Pradeshiya Saba, S.Sugirthan and retired Principal of Chavakachcheri Driberg College, K.Arunthavapalan participated as Special Guests.
Several persons including the Guests and the retired ISA and the sister of Sivamaharasa, Mrs. Annaparipooranam Gnaneswaran garlanded the statue of Sivamaharasa standing in the Cooperatiove premises, and paid sentimental homages.
In the even that followed this, held in the Society’s hall, a memorial flame was lighted and two minutes silence was observed. Memorial oration by , Mrs. Annaparipooranam Gnaneswaran and other guests followed.
It is notable that Sivamaharasa was assassinated while staying in his temporary abode near Thellipallai Thurkkai Amman Temple, on the night of 20.08 2006, while curfew was in force.
In acknowledgement of his loyalty to his race and the liberation struggle, he was conferred with the highest civilian honour of the Liberation Tigers, “Mamanithar’, by National Leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.
