More accusation of link to Illegal groups on Jaffna Police
It was pointed out in a discussion on controlling crime in the North, held yesterday at the District Secretariat that most of the crimes are occurring due to the negligence of the Police.
The discussion on controlling the large number of Crimes in Jaffna District was presided by the Minister of Fisheries and Aqua resources.
It was insisted there that the police is accountable for increase in crimes such as, Sand smuggling, Narcotic usage and sword slashing.
When the people inform police about any crimes, police itself give the information of the complainants to the related criminals. They in turn threaten the informants and attack their homes.
The Jaffna District DIG accepted that some police personnel have links to the perpetrators.
Expressing their opinion on illegal activities the Lawyers said that narcotic offenders are getting bails easily in courts. They further said that without accusing the police, cases should be filed in High Court under sections that would lead to rehabilitation sentences.
From the side of the public it was said that offender are re-engaging in crimes after the court action. Hence the lawyers should not appear for repeat offenders. Then the crimes rate will drop.
Several people including the District Secretary, Jaffne, N.Vethanayagan, Divisional Secretaries, members of the police, Security Forces , Pradeshiya Sabhas and the public.
