Mullai Fresh Water Fishermen request permission to fish in Iranaimadu

Accusations have been levelled that the fresh water fishermen from Mulaitheevu district are not being allowed to fish in Iranaimadu Tank. The Fresh Water Fishermen from the villages The villagers of Thirumurukandy, Indupuram and Selvapuram under Mulaitheevu Odduchuddan Divisional Secretary Area, are not being allowed to fish in Iranaimadu Tank by the Fresh water fishermen’s Associations of Kilinochchi District. Hence they are requesting that they be allowed to fish in Iranaimadu Tank.

When this problem of the Mulaitheevu Fresh Water Fishermen was brought up in the Odduchuddan area CC Meeting it was said that there are Fresh water Fishermen Associations in Iranaimadu. Fishermen could register them in these Associations and fish in Iranaimadu. Those who try to fish without registering them in the Association face the problem.
