20th Aniversary of Navaly St. Peter’s massacre

The day – 1995 .7.9th.  Leap Forward operation was in progress.

Shells were pouring all over Valikamam from as early as 5.30 a.m. Displaced people came from far away were resting in the St.Peter’s church premises.

Flying iron demons came from the direction of Jaffna. 13 bombs were dropped on the people resting in the premises. 147 people including two Grama Sevakas, a DS office woman officer, 44 volunteers giving water to displacing public, were killed.

Most of them died without medical attention which was scarce those days.  BBC commented that the Eelam Tamils will never forget St.Peters Massacre.

Monuments had been erected at the St.peters premises and Somasunthara Pulavar Road, Navaly, in memory of the 147 Tamils killed that day.
