3 ½ ‘ Buddha Statue brought to Neeraviyadi Temple premises contravention to court order
In the wake of the regime change a 3 ½ ‘ Buddha Statute has been brought from Colombo to be installed in the Buddhist Vihare constructed in the Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar Temple premises, in gross violation of court order.
Although the court had strictly banned any construction at the Vihare constructed inside the Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar Temple, a 3 ½ ‘ Buddha statue has been brought to the Vihare prior – installation worship was undertaken yesterday. The special pooja and worship were presided by Trincomalee chief Sanganayake, Rev. Mihundhurathne Thevakeerthy.
Although the court has allowed both faction to conduct worship it had banned new construction.
In a context where a regime change occurred on 16th , bringing of Buddha statue will create new crisis, concerned parties said.
