3 all-island power cut in 6 months & President places Army in control of all power stations

Following 3 island-wide power cuts the President had ordered that all power houses be placed under the security of the Army. The power failure on day before yesterday extended for 7 hours from 2.30 countrywide and to around 10.50 p.m. in some parts Jaffna. it is reported

Yesterday too, the power failed from 5.00p.m. to around 8.30 p.m. which is third island –wide power failure within 6 months. Sunday s power failure was caused by a transformer exploding at the Biyagama distribution Centre, it was reported.

The placing power stations and distribution centres under Army had given rise to various speculations including arson.
