3 female children sexually abused in Muthur – 4 arrested –Students and parents protest in the road
3 female children were sexually abused in Periyavelly, Muthur in Trincomalee. 4 persons were arrested accused of committing the offence. Tension prevailed in Muthur Periyavelli area with students and parents demonstrating against the offence. They had some altercations with the Police.
A contractor who had employed the persons involved in the offence was bound to a post and assaulted by the people. They also blocked the road and demonstrated with students of a few Tamil schools.
Three girls from Mallikaitheevu aged 7,for 7, and 8 years respectively had gone to school for religious lessons and returned home very late. On inquiries by the parents they had said some persons had sexually abused them in the toilet of the school.
On information from the parents, police had sped to the area and arrested 2 persons while the contractor had been tied to a post there. He was removed by the police and with his help two more suspects were arrested, and produced before Muthur Court and remanded till tomorrow and the three girls were admitted to Trincomalee General Hospital. Police also said they have collected sperm samples from the site of the incident. Court had ordered the sperm samples were sent for DNA analysis.
Meanwhile the police said security has been tightened to prevent any social or racial disturbances occurring there, as the affected girls were from the Tamil community and the offenders were Muslims.
The demonstration by the students and parents was abandoned after the assurance of the Provincial Education Minister Thandayuthapany that justice will be delivered.
