3,588 acre agricultural lands destructed by continuous Rains, says Deputy Commissioner
The District Deputy Commissioner of Agrarian Department, Vavuniya, E.Vijayakumar has said that nearly 3,588 acre agricultural lands had been damaged by the continuous rains that poured over the district.
Although it was anticipated to cultivate 48,902 acre, currently 48,914 acre of paddy cultivation had been undertaken this time. 6,529 acres under the tanks coming under Central Irrigation Department, 5,585 acre under the Tanks coming under medium sized Tanks coming under Provincial Irrigation Department, 29,600 acre under 661 Tanks coming under our Department and 7,000 acre on “Manavari” basis making up a grand total of 47,914 had been cultivated with paddy.
To date Fertilizer subsidy has been obtained for 29,895 acres.
3,588.75 acre paddy cultivated lands had been destroyed by Floods caused by inclement weather.
90% of these lands were destroyed in the Vavuniya North area. 17 acre had been destroyed by elephants. 150 acre of black gram cultivation had been destroyed by the floods.
