590 houses promised to be built for Sinhal families, in Kokkilai and Nayaru areas by Fisheries Minister
The Minister of Fisheries, Mahindha Amaraweera had said that 590 houses will be built for the 590 majority Sinhala families who are living at these areas.
The Minister made a visit to Mullaitheevu District on the 2nd of this month and during his visit he had met the Sinhala people and the Minister’s statement is published in a media report issued by the Ministry following Ministers visit.
290 families are living in Nayaru and 300 families in Kokkilai are living and engaged in fishing here for more than 50 years. When the minister met them they have told that they are living without own lands and requested him to give them houses.
According to the request of the Sinhalese fishermen, the Minister had taken action to provide housing to fishermen who living there for more than 50 years.
Further he had formed a group of Secretariat officials to find out the problems of not only the Sinhala people but also the Tamil and Muslim people, the report said.
