6 elders from Kepapulavu, to go into fasting protest demanding release of their lands

Six elders from the Village of Kepapulavu in Mullaitheevu have decided to go on an indefinite fasting protest demanding the release of lands of the people occupied by the Army in Kepapulavu. A meeting had been scheduled to discuss this matter on Monday. If suitable solution is not reached in this meeting, we will go into the fast immediately said the elders.

After the final war in 2009, the army occupied 550 acre of people’s lands.  Although, the people of Kepapulavu had engaged in several struggles for the last 7 years, calling for the release of their lands.

Finally, although one land owner commenced a fasting protest in April, he gave it up after 3 days, on the TNA Leader , Era Sampanthan pomising that arrangement had already been made to release the lands.

But although 3 month have passed after, nothing has happened. Hence we are going into fasting protest they said.
