7 districts scorched by drought – 110,156 persons affected in Jaffna District

More than 300,000 persons have been affected by the extended drought in 7 districts of the country and are facing shortages in drinking water.

As water reservoirs have gone dry they had to trek long distances to fetch drinking water, it is reported.

As per reports received:

110,156 persons belonging to 30408 families in Jaffna District

3,648 persons belonging to 828 families in Vavuniya District

72,263  persons belonging to 21,272 families in Kilinochchi  District

102,163 persons belonging to 29,421 families in Vavuniya District had been affected in the North.

Farmers in these areas are finding it difficult undertake agriculture.
