70 out of 719 tanks in Vavuniya encroached by the Public. Action to be taken by Agrarian Ser. Dept

There are 719 tanks are found in Vavuniya. 70 of them are illegally encroached by public. The Agrarian Services Department said that they are considering about  taking action against the encroaches.

This had been stated in reply to information sought under Right to information Act.

It is further stated in the reply that although 719 tanks are found in Vavuniya, a total of 70 of them including 55 tanks under Kovikulam Agrarian Department, one in Kanagarayan kulam, 4 in Omanthai, 5 in Pampaimadu, 1 in Nedunkerny, and 4 in Cheddikulam have been encroached by the public.

Asked about the action against the encroachers, the Department has replied that although cases were filed against them under section 83 of the Agrarian Development Act No.46 of the year 2000, it has been found that cases cannot be filed under the above section and hence, it is considered to take action under Land review Act, through the Divisional Secretariats.
