790 persons belonging to 770 families affected by ” Cyclone Kaja” – Disaster Management Centre
The Disaster Management Centre announced yesterday that 790 people belonging to 770 families were affected by ‘Cyclone Kaja which formed in Bay of Bengal moved towards India and crossed the shore at Athirampattanam in Tamil Nadu, India.
Jaffna District which fell within the outer edge of the Cyclone and all 16 divisional Secretary areas were affected by it, although no life was reported. Strong winds and heavy showers prevailed all night. Worst affected were the Banana cultivators. Their banana trees were either uprooted or broken at mid-stem. 16 houses had been completely damaged and 483 houses were partly damaged.

In Chavakachcheri 02 welfare centres had been established and 45 persons belonging to 14 families had been lodged in them.
Although , strong winds and heavy rains prevailed in other district of the Northern Province, no affectations had been reported.
