Anuradhapura Cancer Hospital cancer wastes dumped in Valikamam North
An accusation was put forward in the Jaffna District DDC meeting that the cancer related wastes from Anuradhapura Cancer Hospital are being dumped in Valikamam North and this drastically detrimental to the future generations.
Vali North Pradeshiya Sabha Member Sajeevan brought up this issue in the Jaffna District DDC meeting.
The cancer and other medical wastes collected in Anuradhapura Cancer hospital had been brought to Vali North for burning. However, while the cancer wastes need a temperature of 1200o C , the furnace at Thellipallai cancer hospital can produce only 850o C which is not enough to burn the human wastes removed in the Thellipallai hospital. Then how are the wastes from the south are being brought here he asked.
In reply the Director of NP Health Services, R.Ketheeswaran accepted that the wastes from Anuradhapura are kept in Thellipalai Hospital and he will take action to return the wastes to Anuradhapura.
