Arrested Priest, who attempted to commemorate Maveerars released on bail

The Rector of the St. Martyn Seminary, Jaffna, who arrested accused of attempting to commemorate Maveerars was released on bail by the Magistrate Court, Jaffna.

He was arrested day before yesterday at around 5.50 p.m., in front of the Seminary located near the Bishop’s House. He was produced in the court charged with three counts including the attempt to commemorate Maveerars in contravention to a court order.

AAL Anton Punithanayagam who appeared for the Rector supported a bail application.

The police who expressed opposition to granting bail said that inquiries had to made regarding funds received from abroad.

However the court enlarged the Rector on a surety bail worth Rs. 100,000/= and postponed to March next year.
