Calling TNA MPs and offering large sums not acceptable: The CM tells President
The CM , Justice C.V.Wigneswaran had pointed out to the President that, while excluding the development of the North, calling some of the TNA MPs to south and giving them big amounts of money is not acceptable.
The President had said that this accusation of the CM is shocking to him and had assured the CM that he will inquire about this and take suitable action and that in the future all development activities in the North will be undertaken through the NCP.
Following the Chief Ministers conference held on Monday night in Colombo, The President personally conversed with the Northern Chief Minister exclusively and during this meeting the CM had pointed out three important matters to the President.
First he pointed out the North had is in a dilapidated state after the 30 year war, and huge amounts money is needed to build it up it to its old glory and that the money allocated presently is inadequate for the purpose and hence huge amounts should be allocated to the North.
Further he had said that there is a need for creating a Chief Ministers fund in the North. As we had to receive funds for developing the North from other countries and the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora, and this could be done through the CM’s fund. Approval was not granted during the last regime. Government could take action in such a way the Central Government can audit the accounts of the funds. We will give our fullest cooperation and hence , he had requested, that the creation of CM’s fund should be approved immediately.
Meanwhile he had said that the Northern Provincial Council had been excluded and some of the TNA MPs had been called to the south and given large amounts of money. The CM had pointed out to the President that, this is an attempt to create split among us. The president was shocked by the news and promised that he will look in to this matter and had asked the CM to take immediate action to inaugurate the CM’s fund and that he will provide all assistance for it.
CM also said that the President had said that he will be meeting again, all the CMs, Governors, Provincial Ministers and their Chief Secretaries next week, and had asked all the needs of the Provinces to be submitted to him in writing, and he will taken necessary action about them.
