We did receive the funds, but for our people: Mawai clarifies
Mawai Senathyrajah, MP and the Leader of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi, had stated that there is no truth in the statements that the TNA MPs had been given large amounts of funds in the south and that they had received allocations with the interest of the people in view.
He said these while he was speaking in a press conference held at the Jaffna office of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi this morning.
He elaborated further regarding the above matter saying that, consequent to some statements of the CM were quoted in the local news papers, this news regarding the receipt of funds were published in web media. But MPs are also people’s representatives. They have requested funds for projects related to people’s interest with a view to people’s interests. I also had asked for funds amounting to 2.5 million.
These allocations are not for filling up their pockets. These are funds, which will be utilized through Ministries and Departments. So there is no need to propagate that the MPs have received allocations.
In this context I have written a letter on 11th to the CM asking clarification regarding the statements he was quoted as saying, and he had written a reply yesterday.
In this conjuncture we have met the CM in his office and talked in person with him today morning. We have talked about some important matters and we made some clarifications.
Further, the unity of the TNA will not be affected by this. The CM and we have decided to work in unity.
What we said in today’s meeting is that, although it was declared in the 2015 budget proposals, that, each MP will be allocated with 10 million of District budget development fund, but, it was not allocated. Everyone should be aware that, a total of Rs.13 crore (130,000,000) was not given to TNA MPs of the North and East.
