Meeting on Mechanism for the Solution of Ethnic Problem between the President and TNA

The TNA reported that, they had participated in a meeting yesterday noon, in Colombo with the President, Maithripala Sirisena. Former President Chandrika Bandaranayake Kumaranathunga also participated in this meeting it was reported.

The theme of the meeting was creating a mechanism to solve the National Ethnic problem. Discussion were undertaken regarding creating a mechanism to reach a permanent political solution that could satisfy the political aspirations of Tamil people and acceptable to all people.

Among other things discussed in this meeting are, the important problems faced by the Tamil people in North and East, The release of persons detained under PTA, immediate actions to be taken regarding people who had gone missing. Former militants being arrested on return to the country, the livelihood problems of woman leadership families, and matters regarding lands promised to be released is not being released.

The president had promised that h expedite actions regarding the above and also pledge to continue such dialogue with the TNA in the future. It is notable that the President’s Secretariat had not issued any media release regarding this meeting.
