UNP and several other parties agree to form “United National Front for Good Governance”
The United National Party (UNP) today approved the forming of the new alliance “United National Front for Good Governance” to contest the forthcoming General Election under ‘Elephant’ symbol.
The new political alliance was approved at the UNP’s special convention held today at Campbell Park in Colombo while the party is to be registered after the election.
Speaking at the convention, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the alliance would be registered after the general elections. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said they would take steps to develop the country while reducing the corruption when they came to power. “We will provide one million job opportunities within five years and create 48 economic zones,” he said.
Several prominent figures of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) who had not signed UPFA nominations, the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) which was recently rebranded as the United National Front for Good Governance as well as certain left-leaning parties are set to join under the UNP’s “elephant” symbol.
The decision was officially announced today after the UNP approved the proposal at the party’s special convention held in Colombo.
The singing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the formation of the “United National Front for Good Governance is to take place tomorrow at Temple Trees.
