Vidya’s Principal fast himself to death in memory of his Student
Following the horrible murder of student Vidya, her Principal Sathasivam Kaneswaran had fasted himself for 41 days and finally died, unable to bear loss of one his intelligent charges, on 16. 07. 2015 in Colombo.
He was born in 1964 to Veerapathirar Sathasivam and Savuntharam both of Nainatheevu and had his Primary and secondary education at Nainatheevu Sri Kanesa Vidyalaya and Nainatheevu Maha Vidyalaya, and later graduated from University of Jaffna. Following his graduation her served for 18 years as a teacher and the Principal of Pungudutheevu Mahavidyalaya.
As a confirmed bachelor, he dedicated himself with much commitment to develop the school and students. When the parents of Vidya wanted to admit her to a Jaffna School he defiantly stopped her from doing so since he had know well that his young charge will make the school proud with her test results. The thought that if he had allowed her to go she would have been alive now, had weighed heavily on his mind.
He lived as an example to others without saving anything for himself.
