Chandrika Assassination attempt accused appeal against their 300 years imprisonment

Velayuthan Varatharajah who was sentenced to 291 years  imprisonment and the Hindu Clergy, Ragupathy Sarma who was sentenced to 300 years imprisonment  for   assassination attempt of former President Chandrika, had appealed against their sentences on the grounds that they were sentenced on the basis of their alleged confessions,  although they had claimed that the confessions were extracted from the forcefully.

The incident happened in 1999 and courted sentenced the suspects for helping to carry out the attack, after 15 long years of trials.

The suspects have appealed to repeal their sentence and release them.
