Ignore plea by racists, relase poltical prisoners : Vijayakala to Govt

State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran has urged the government to release the political prisoners prior to November 7 as promised and not to listen to the pleas made by Communists and racists.

She was speaking at the event held to declare open a new building for the Jaffna Prison. Law and Order Minsiter Tilak Marapona was the Chief Guest.

She stated that argument that release of political prisoners will be threat to national security is nonsensical. She pointed out that under the previous regime 2000 LTTE cadres were released and some of them held portfolios and there was no threat to national security. Similarly it is silly to say that the fifth Elam war will break out by the release of 217 political prisoners.
