Who killed Missing persons: Relatives ask Ranil
In the context of Prime Minister Ranil saying that all Missing are presumed, the relatives are asking Ranil to publish information on who killed them. If those who were handed over directly to the Army and those who were abducted by para-military groups are dead, who killed them?, they ask. Sri Lankan Government should answer this query. In a situation where people who were detained in secret camps sparingly released, Ranil’s statement had aggrieved the minds of Tamil people, civil organizations said.
Commenting on Ranil’s statement the President of the Mannar Citizen’s Committee, Rev.Fr. Sebamalai, said that their organization was actively involved in the search for missing persons. Ranil have no right to say like that. The Government must answer this. The truth about what happened to, those who surrendered, those who were handed over alive to the Army, those who were abducted by identified para- military groups, those who were abducted in white vans. You cannot escape from this after just saying that, they are dead. If they are dead, how did it happen? Who are responsible? Rani should say it. The Government should say it. You cannot compare the disappearances of the North to those of the South.
The Secretary of the group for finding out missing Persons, Suntharam Mahendran said that, it is not clear whether this is a private opinion of Ranil or of the Government. If it is that of the Government it is not acceptable. People are being released from secret camps after the regime change. There are evidences for this. First, inquiries should be undertaken about the secret camps, he said.
