Sudden change in direction of Housing scheme to include Pollonnaruwa and Anuradhapura
In the 65,000-house housing scheme promised for North and East, Anuradhapura and Pollonnaruwa Districts are included now, it is reported. This Housing was introduced by Resettlement Ministry to provide the people of North and East who had lost their dwellings during the war. It was reported that each of these houses will be constructed at a cost of Rs.2.1 million and it was stated that, these houses will be provided exclusively to people of North and East.
While participating in the National Pongal festival, Minister of Resettlement, D.M.Swaminathan said that the Government had initiated plans for constructing 65,000 houses for people of North and East.
In this context it had been suddenly announced that Pollonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Mannar districts are also included in this scheme on a basis of these districts being affected by war.
