Though there are changes: the Military presence is always a problem: says CM to Australian Envoy
The Australian Ambassdor Preen Huschan visited the North the day before yesterday and met the NPC CM, C.V.Wigneswaran at his residence yesterday morning. Speaking to the media after the meeting, the CM said that he had told the Envoy that although there are changes, the continuous Military presence is a problem.
He had also told that when foreign countries are providing assistance, it should not be done only with the consultation with the Central Government but also with the representatives of the people. They had come to find what help they could provide the people of the North. I have told them that several projects are undertaken in the North jointly by Australian and Sri Lankan governments , but the contribution of the Provincial Council in them is very low.
I have also told them that whatever army do saying they doing good to the people, Our people find it difficult to accept the continuous presence even after 6 years from the end of the war. When I said the they say that power is devolved but they do things without consulting us, the Envoy said he take a note of that. He also insisted on the importance of English Language, the CM said.
