Crisis in North only in acquiring clean drinking water, says Bharathithasan, of NWS & DB

The World Water day is to be celebrated worldwide today with a theme of  “ Water and the Mission.”

A preparatory awareness creating Walkabout with a theme of “ Search for clean drinking water” was held yesterday under the aegis of National Water Supplies and Drainage Board (NWS & DB).

Addressing the gathering at the end of the walk, the Northern Regional  Manager of NWS & DB said that, by 2020 all the other provinces except Northern will be able to attain 60% of the target of providing clean drinking water. But in the North it will be difficult to attain this target.

The quantities of impurities found in Northern waters had made it difficult to implement programs to supply clean drinking water like the other Provinces, he said.
