If everybody act with faith, a permanent solution within this year, says Sampanthan in Jaffna

“We will not abandon our people. It is my estimate that a permanent solution could be reached within this year, if all act in faith.”, said Era Sampanthan, the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the opposition.

He was speaking to the media at the residence of MP, Saravanapavan, located at Rasapathai, Kopay. In the course of the media Conference, a journalist asked him whether a solution will be reached within this year, as per his (Sampanthan’s) earlier statement. Sampanthan commented as above in answer.

It is only my estimate that the solution will be reached before the end of the year. But I am not the person to make the final arrangements for the solution. There is a procedure adopted in this. Some things had to happen.

A regime change had occurred. Rajapakse had been sent home. Maithri had come to power. It is my estimate that, he wants to find a permanent solution to this problem. Ranil had come in assistance to him. He also has the same thoughts. Although either of them do not have an absolute majority, they could reach it with our help. Hence there is no delay in this matter. Some media act in a way to disturb this matter.

We know what is needed to our people. A permanent – just – and implementable solution should be obtained on the basis of sovereignty of our people. This is their birth right. We will not force a solution on our people. We will accept a solution only with the consent of the people, he said.
