Fast unto death protest against land acquisition in Mullaitheevu tomorrow

The owners of Lands to be acquired by the Army said that they will commence a fast unto death struggle from tomorrow. They accused that their lands are to be acquired continuously from Tuesday to Thursday.

The Army who had occupied the lands of the people by force are trying to grab these land from people.The owners of lands at Puthukudiyirruppu, Suthanthirapuram, Visuvamadu and Nayaru are informed that their lands are to be acquired from Tuesday to Thursday. Our continuous struggles against earlier attempts had not been successful. Hence we have decided to go into fast unto death, they said.

People who congregated at the Public Relations Office of MP Sivamohan, at Puthukudiyiruppu to take a final decision in this matter said that they no other way than struggling against the Government and the Army and we have decided to fight in an non-violent struggle.

The fasting protest will begin tomorrow in front of Puthukudiyiruppu Divisional Secretary’s office at 9.00 a.m. They called upon everybody including the members of Parliament and  Provincial Council to help them in this redeem their lands for them.

When MP, Sivamohan was contacted he had said that this is an injustice act of the Army. The Government is colluding in this. This land will be looked upon as an act which make the act of speaking about reconciliation as a mockery. The Government should come forward to lend it ears to the voices of the minds of these people rather than supporting Army Officers. I will give my full support to the people in their struggle, he said.
