Navy fencing off private lands in Mullaitheevu – Land owners call for immediate action

The Navy is fencing off lands owned by private owners are being fenced off by the Navy at Mullaitheevu,Mulliyawalai and Vadduvagal, said the people. 312 acre belonging to 32 families and 300 acre state lands were being fenced now.

In the context of several demands and requests were made to release land occupied by navy earlier without any success, A discussion was held regarding the release of lands, presided by the Actg. Secretary to Ministry of Defence on January 16th this year, at the District Secretariat. The Actg. Secretary had said a reply will be given before the end of February, but no reply whatsoever had been given

The District Secretary said that he had not been informed of the fencing, but on the contrary, the Navy promised to release some lands soon, in a conference  at the Colombo “Temple Trees” presided by the  Secretary to the President.
