Protesters foil  ‘Surveying of Private land’ to be acquired for Navy in Pallikudah

Private lands on which the Pallikudah Navy camp is located was to be surveyed today, to be acquired for the Navy.

The people who got wind of this, with the assistance of Tamil political activists staged protest to stop this land grabbing attempt. The occupying Sri Lankan Navy who reached the spot were seen photographing the demonstrators and journalists possibly for future identification.

These particular lands which belong to general public  are located in Pallikudah  which come under the Poonakary Divisional Secretary’s area of Kilinochchi District. The Survey Department had informed the owners of the land that they will be surveying their land for the purpose of acquiring them for Navy.

It is notable that last week also, lands in Veddukadu, Paramankirai attempts were made to survey private lands to be acquired, but they were made to be abandoned by the opposition of the people and politicians.

The owners of the Pallikudah lands have appealed to the politicians to stop this land grabbing attempt.
