Mulliwaikkal Commemoration banned in Nagarkovil          

Assistant Police Superintendent Jabbar said yesterday that the Mulliwaikkal commemoration to be held at the Nagarkovil Maha Vidyalayam on Friday was prevented.

But the Organizer of the event, M.K.Sivajilingam said that they never planned to hold the event inside the school premises but, they held the lighting of memorial flame near the school at the pre-planned spot.

Mulliwaikkal Memorial week is being commemorated from the 12th of this month. It was planned to hold the 1st and 2nd days’ commemoration at Chemmany and Nagarkovil respectively.

Chemmany is the venue, where it is alleged  several Tamil people subjected to forced disappearance  had been buried, including the School girl Kirishanthy, mercilessly raped and murdered by the Army. Nagarkovil was the venue of the massacre of school children by aerial bombing. The 2nd day flame lighting was planned to be held in Nagarkovil in remembrance of the above massacre.

On the basis of an information that this event is being planned to be held within the school Complex, the police was massed in the school. As this event was planned to be held during school hours, the permission was not granted , the ASP said.

Commenting on this the organizer of the event Member of NPC, M.K.Sivajilingam said that, they never planned to hold the event inside the school. The police was wrongly informed and they have gone to the school in the morning and inquired the Principal and later closed the gates of the school. But we held the event at the planned spot outside the school premises.

Meanwhile, the 3rd day flame lighting was held at Navaly St. Peter’s Church in remembrance of the Tamil people killed in aerial bombing during “Operation leap Forward” in 1995. M.K.Sivajilingam with others.
